This project involved repairing and extending the life of a set of six commemorative totem poles in Cottons Park, Havering. The poles had suffered from woodworm attack and rot at the base, and without intervention would have needed to be removed entirely due to the risk of collapse.

Repairing Damage and Treating Timber
Woodworm and Rot Remediation
After establishing a safe working area, the poles were removed at the base and the most affected sections were cut away. The remaining timber was then treated with a fungal and woodworm treatment, followed by the application of a preservative to help protect the structure.

Custom Steel Bases and Footing Improvements
Custom galvanised steel bases were manufactured to the customer's specification and fitted to each pole using cross bolts. The existing concrete footings, which were substantial but below ground level, were exposed and extended to the current surface before the new bases were installed. The area was then topsoiled and seeded before removing the security fencing.
